Peggy Dress - New Colors
No plain Jaynes here!
This wiggle is named after the bombshell herself… Jayne Mansfield.
This is our glitzy modern take of an outfit Jayne would have killed in.
What makes it have that vintage esthetic? It all boils down to silhouette structure and length.
This cut is a form fitting pencil dress with a modest, below-the-knee length hem, and dramatic scoop neckline that draws the eye.
How long is too long for below the knee?
Well, we’re glad you asked!
Ideally you want the hem to hit where the top of your calf is at its smallest. Why? Because we love curves! And if it gets to your mid-calf it can make you appear shorter. Beauty is, of course, subjective... so where it however the heck you want!
@rragtime_cat in our classic Jayne Dress
What makes it modern? We will we’ve made this classic pinup pencil dress in a stretch fabric, and we have also added adjustable slide straps along with an invisible zipper.
Traditionally this is not something found in vintage garments from the 1950’s 1960’s era.
This piece does come lined as well in an equally stretchy fabric.
The Jayne Dress by Tatyana Clothing
Why is this style still relevant? It's iconic!
Trends come and go but classics never go out of style. When you think about a cocktail dress, a wedding dress, prom wear or any special occasion wear for that matter, you want to make a statement. You want a little something different and glamorous. This dress is all that.. combined.
Elegant with a dash of drama, just like Jayne.
Style this dreamy dress with a modern edge or go for the for that unique midcentury heartbreaker. There is no wrong move, Jayne is the dress for the girls who cannot help it! Do not be afraid of attention, Jayne wouldn't be. After all, life’s too short for boring clothes.
How we styled it- We had the chance to play dress up with the local Las Vegas based Heads Will Roll Salon.
We brought in our good friend Alex, one of our past managers from our closed Forum Shops location to model for this shoot.
Dottie Vee of Heads Will Roll personally styled Alex’s hair in a modern French braid. This look is very popular with casual vintage loving brides this season.
Make-up and Hair provided by Heads Will Roll Salon
Alex’s make-up was expertly applied by @Janetcakemua who also was leaning towards more of modern esthetic.
When you pair the current makeup trends with our classic silhouette it makes a winning combination that leaves an impression.

Mid-century Fashion and Chill..
Fall is here and if we know one thing, history (including fashion) always repeats itself. This season, we at Tatyana Clothing have gotten a little braver by utilizing innovative & bold silhouettes that capture the imagination while staying true to our vintage inspired roots.
After all, life is too short for boring clothes...
We love the comfort of the timeless fall trends we see make a comeback year after year. We welcome the familiar trends like an old friend.
You know we must have some plaid prints in our collection as well as the cozy and warm traditional fall color palette that we can never have enough of. With our new collection in mind, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorite new pieces coming to you this season, as well as slip in a little nod to how we are spending some of our nights...which is watching some television bundled up at home staying fabulously over-dressed!
You might notice a few more fashion houses like Gucci, Vivian Westwood, Valentino, all the way down to fast fashion retailers like H&M adopting the vintage silhouette, trying their hand at the iconic mid-century era aesthetic. We think this might have something to do with how much attention has gone toward some beautifully done award-winning streaming programs.
We are in awe of the wardrobe from “Nurse Ratched” on Netflix, “Hollywood”, and my personal favorite “Lovecraft Country” on HBO. Once again I find myself counting the days until The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns for another season with its drool-worthy wardrobe. We are thrilled that vintage fashion will be making a guest appearance in mainstream media once again! It has been how long since Mad Men had its season finale?!?
We have brought back our Tabitha skirt, a traditional box pleated circle skirt designed in a vegan friendly synthetic wool. We skipped the polka dots in favor of a pinky, mauve black grey plaid that is feminine and sophisticated. This skirt even has a matching scarf to give you the look of an outfit that was custom-tailored for you.
This skirt has pockets and belt loops that will accommodate a belt up to two inches wide. The Tabitha skirt and scarf look absolutely has a Midge Maisel vibe that begs to be photographed. Picture perfect looks for fall are here! (Don’t forget to tag our new Instagram, @tatyanaclothing)
If you are drawn to the controversial show Hollywood, with its Lux wardrobe and sets, we think you might want to look at our newest blouse “Willow”. This beauty has an arrow tip 1940’s collar with dramatic bishop sleeves and a tapered bodice. The sumptuous fabric is slinky and bounces off the light, giving off beautiful movement and dimension. The willow blouse has a flare for the dramatic. This show-stopping piece elevates any outfit, flowing from modern to vintage, depending on what you accompany her with. Yet, it somehow never loses the old Hollywood glamour aesthetic. This pairs perfectly with our director-style berets and vintage Bakelite jewelry or some fakelite accessories like the ones we sell by Bow & Crossbones.
Lights! Camera! Action!
We’ve filled our fall collection with garments to stir up nostalgia you will fall in love with. Slip into something comfortable and fabulous with us as we binge watch 1950’s modern Americana in matching attire! Is the 1950’s sci-fi horror more your niche? Then look no further than Lovecraft Country! Not for the faint of heart, this show has EVERYTHING! Letti has her classic casual 1950’s attire while her sister goes for a more sophisticated look. Also, we just HAVE to mention the beautiful period-accurate menswear as well. Collared shirts and pressed slacks with knits in the dreamiest color palettes. This show is equal parts gorgeous and terrifying.
If Letti is more your style we recommend our high waisted Luisa pants coming in a quality stretch woven hunter green fabric. Pair that with our latest, soft as a cloud pullover sweater Glenda. This look is effortless, timeless, youthful, and... comfortable!
If Letti’s crooner sister Ruby from Lovecraft Country is more your aesthetic, we have our CEO, now in hunter green, or our Rita dress in plaid. Both are made in a high quality stretch fabric meant to hug your curves without “sacrificing” comfort. Pair either of the classic 1950’s inspired pencil dress with flats and a pillbox hat for a day look, or pair it with heels and cropped jacket for sharp “femme fatale” night look.
Get ready for your close up and live life to the fullest. Dress up with us and your favorite shows, just don’t forget to tag us in your photos!

Crinoline? Petticoat? Pinafore? Tutu? Cancan?
Crinoline? More like crinoWIN!
Dance the night away like Ginger Rogers twirling around a ballroom! All eyes will be on you when you sashay into a room be it dancing or strutting. Having the perfect foundation wear really sets off an outfit. Nothing creates the classic 1950’s look quite like having a full petticoat.
For those that are new to the style and not familiar with the era, and are looking to dress period accurate for an event, a play, or any performance, the petticoat is a necessity. Without them your look might read more like a modern midi cut skirt or dress, and you lose the vintage aesthetic you're going for. But on the flip side you can ADD a vintage look to a modern piece by simply adding a petticoat. As long as the skirt is cut full enough to accommodate the pinafore. Did I just say Pinafore? Yes I did! Confusing, I know! Let me give you a breakdown of the MANY names this style of slip has been given over the years, along with a brief history. Because history of fashion is FUN.
- Petticoat- An under garment worn under a skirt or dress. The exact meaning has changed over the years and can vary from region to region
- Pinafore- Sleeveless dress typically worn over clothing as an apron.
- Tu-Tu- A stiff tulle skirt coming out from waist typically used in ballet.
- Poodle skirt- Poodle skirts are a fashion staple made popular in the 1950’s. The poodle skirt is a term used to describe full circle skirt made of felt. A crinoline or two or three are always used to set off this 1950’s Americana sock-hop look.
- Cancan skirt-Calf length skirt with inside lining loaded with rows of ruffles.
- Slip-Woman's garment worn underneath clothing.
- Tea length slip- A slip that falls below the knee but above the ankle. Commonly used for event garments like weddings and other special occasions.
- Crinolines-Stiffened fabric, with horse hair, stiff linen, or cotton used to make long skirts stand out.
All of these varied terms are often used to describe the same garment used now in modern times. The term we use most often is crinoline, we wont judge if you use any of the other terms. Crinoline slips are making a comeback, with tea length dresses being very relevant in the fashion world every season, thanks to designers like Betsey Johnson, Lilly Pulitzer and of course your design team at Tatyana Boutique and Tailor & Twirl the tea length slips are a must in every fashion forward closet. Women would have to wear several layers of starched slips to get that dramatic iconic look. Thanks to our custom re-designed crinolines, you can say “good bye” to scratchy itchy slips. Not only does our crinolines offer shape to your outfit but it also offers a pop of color. Why does color matter when this “slip” isn't meant to be seen? Because it looks pretty! Not only does the petticoat offer structural support for a garment but it adds color and life. In more recent trends, especially in bridal, the bride will often have there bridesmaids wear crinolines at a level where the fun bridal colors peek out from there tea length dresses. This is fittingly called a peek-a-boo slip.
It's new trend that would definitely be scoffed at 40 years ago. Fun bold colors also catch the eye on a dance floor or stage. The light weight fluffy fabric moves beautifully and will peek out when you sitting or dancing. It's not only just for utilitarian purposes but doubles as a lovely accessory for your outfit. We use quantity of fabric as opposed to stiff fabric to create volume. Making our in house designed petticoats the best on the market. No horse hair required ;) and of course comfortable.
